Kelley Blue Book recently announced the winners of its annual 5-Year Cost to Own Awards. There's both an overall brand winner and individual category winners. For the second year in a row Hyundai has taken the overall brand winner award.

KBB cited Hyundai's superior warranty program and low repair costs across its lineup as reasons why a Hyundai is the best value for your money in terms of how much a Hyundai costs you to own.

While Hyundai took the top place among manufacturers, the Hyundai Sonata took the mid-size car category, while the Hyundai Elantra and Accent placed second in the compact and subcompact categories, respectively.

The aim of the 5-Year Cost to Own Award is to help shoppers evaluate their out-of-pocket expenses for any model after the initial purchase. While a vehicle might be cheap to drive off the lot, you might have to pay more proportionately than you would have thought due to high cost-to-own factors. This is why a Hyundai is a good long-term prospect for those looking to keep the costs of maintenance and repairs low on their new vehicle.
