The 2018 Hyundai Ioniq is now available at Superior Hyundai North. The Ioniq is a family of green cars; and the all-electric model was debuted early last year at various car shows.

The Ioniq features the electric version, which has a range of over 100 miles, the plug-in hybrid, and a regular hybrid. According to, Hyundai said that the Ioniq is the first green-focused vehicle to feature three different electric drivetrains on one platform.

The Electric Version

The electric version, which is the version that debuted at the auto show, is a great commuter car for those who commute 100 miles or less. The interior looks like the rest of Hyundai's interiors, so you can expect high quality materials.

The electric motor makes 120 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque. A 28 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery feeds the motor via a single speed reduction gear transmission. With a coefficient drag of only 0.24, the Ioniq is more efficient than any other vehicle out there. And, because there is less drag, less fuel is used. In this case, less electricity.

The batteries are located under the rear seats. The Ioniq uses aluminum for the tailgate and hood, thus saving on weight and further increasing range. Instead of the grille in the front, which is not needed to cool the engine, the electric model features a closed contrasting panel.

The Hybrid Models

If your commute is more than 100-plus miles, or you want to use your new vehicle for road trips, the plug-in hybrid gives you over 25 miles on all electric before the gas engine fires up to charge the battery. That is three miles more than the competing Prius gets.

The gas-hybrid version features a six-speed dual clutch transmission to help you get to where you're going; and you can go as far as you want, though you'll have to fill up at the gas station.
