You Know You're From Cincinnati When

You know you're from Cincinnati when you head over to Superior Hyundai North or Superior Hyundai of Beavercreek to pick out your new vehicle because you know you'll get the best deal. And you also know that people from Cincy have idiosyncrasies that no other city has.

… Whenever you meet someone new, you can't help but let them know that "Rain Man" was filmed here.

… You always ask new people where they went to high school and you know the answer is going to be their high school, not the college they attended. You also know that the answer speaks volumes about that person and his or her family.

… You've ordered goetta, a breakfast sausage that German immigrants brought to the area.

… You know how to order a three-way in Cincinnati.

… You have Graeter's in your freezer and conversations often revolve around which flavor is the best.

… You're an "east-sider" or a "west-sider."

… You have German heritage.

… You know the Fortune 500 companies that are based here; and there are more per capita than Los Angeles or New York.

… You know what Porkopolis is about.

… You tell people we had the first Brooklyn Bridge... in a way.

… You have a cornhole board.

… You know that Jerry Springer was the mayor of Cincinnati.

… You brag that Steven Spielberg, Pete Rose, Doris Day and Charles Manson are from Cincinnati.

… You know who Charley Harper is.

… You know that you can get to California, Delhi, Wyoming and Coney Island within an hour.

… You know Rookwood is not a tree; that they brought ceramics to the forefront of the world; and that it won a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1889.

Tips for Driving with Your Pet in the Car

When you pick up a new vehicle from Superior Hyundai North, you will probably pick up something while keeping your pet in mind. Some vehicles are better for taking your pet with you than others. Whether you choose a sedan or SUV, there are ways to keep your pet safe.

Crating

When possible, keep your pets crated in the vehicle. If you should get into an accident, the crate will hopefully hold together so that your pet doesn't get loose on the highway. It would be a shame for your pet to survive a bad accident only to get hit on the highway. Also, a crate keeps your pet from being thrown into the front seat or into the windshield should you have to come to fast stop or should you hit something.

Seat Belts and Harnesses

Sometimes, it's just not possible to create your pet. Have fun trying to fit a Great Dane-sized crate in a vehicle, even an SUV. Your best option is to get a harness for your pet. This keeps the pet from sliding around the seat, trying to jump in the front, distracting the driver and keeps your pet safe in the event of an accident. Most harnesses attach to the seat belt.

Look for a harness that has been crash tested, that has a broad padded chest plate, that is compatible with your vehicle's seat belts, that is adjustable to your dog's size and that has all metal hardware. Other attributes should include the ability to function as a walking harness and that it has a good seat belt loop.

Car Sickness

If your dog gets car sick, you can still take it with you. Check with your vet about the proper dosages of Dramamine. You just have to remember to give it to the dog about a half hour before you leave. This will keep you from having to clean up any messes in your vehicle.

Hyundai Sonata v Ford Fusion

When you are in the market for a hybrid vehicle, be sure to stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive the 2016 Hyundai Sonata hybrid. This model has tons of features and is very affordable. When compared to the 2016 Ford Fusion, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata has more features and better crash test ratings. Though the Sonata's MSRP is higher than the Fusion's MSRP, you do get more for the money.

Charging and Mileage

The Sonata has a great charge mode and it's a good way to get that electric power without worrying about having to stop and charge the vehicle. It will just convert over to gas until you can charge the batteries again. The Ford has impressive comfort, but the Hyundai doesn't sacrifice anything for comfort.

The Sonata gets better mileage than most other hybrids and the plug-in offers a fast charge restoring mode. The Sonata gets 40 mpg* in the city compared to the Fusion's 22 mpg* in the city; and 44 mpg* on the highway compared to the Fusion's 34 mpg* on the highway.

Dimensions

The Sonata beats out the Fusion in most areas of interior space. The Hyundai has 57.9 inches of front shoulder room compared to the Ford's, 57.8 inches, 45.5 inches of legroom compared to the Fusion's 44.3 inches, 55.3 inches of front hip room compared to the Ford's 55 inches and 40 inches of front headroom compared to the Ford's 39.2 inches.

Mechanical

The Sonata has the smaller four-cylinder engine with a 2.0-liter engine compared to the Fusion's 2.5-liter engine; however, the Sonata has more horsepower with 193 horses at 6,000 rpm compared to the Ford's 175 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. The Sonata uses a hybrid drivetrain while the Ford's engine is just a gas engine.

Crash Test Ratings

The Sonata has better crash test ratings than the Ford Fusion. Both vehicles scored five stars in overall frontal crash barrier rating, frontal barrier crash rating for the driver, side barrier rating for the rear passenger seat, side pole rating for the driver's side front seat and combined side rating for the rear seat.

The Ford Fusion scored four stars while the Sonata scored five stars for the following tests: frontal barrier crash rating passenger, overall side crash rating and side barrier rating. And, the Fusion scored a three-star rating where the Sonata scored five stars for side barrier rating for the driver and combined side rating for the front seat. Both vehicles scored four stars for a rollover rating.

Different Ways to Clean Your Car with Baking Soda

When you first get your new car from Superior Hyundai North, you don't have to worry too much about deep cleaning it, but after a season or two, you might have to sparkle it up a bit. You can do this easily with baking soda. It's cheap to use and doesn't damage most materials.

Batteries

Clean that green corrosion from battery terminals with a mixture of three parts baking soda and one part water. Be sure to use a battery terminal cleaner or brush and gloves. Once they are clean, wipe the terminals dry. Coat them with petroleum jelly or super glue a penny about 1/8-inch from the terminal to dissuade future corrosion.

Chrome

You can buff chrome clean with dry baking soda and a damp sponge. Just sprinkle the baking soda on the damp sponge and buff out chrome lights, license plates, mirrors, bumpers, wiper blades and window trim. Rinse it with water and dry with a soft towel.

Carpets

To get rid of odors in the carpets, brush dry baking soda into them. Vacuum them thoroughly and they'll smell fresh and clean again. If you have stains on the carpets, get rid of them with a carpet cleaner, let the carpets dry thoroughly and then brush the baking soda in and vacuum.

Ashtrays

If you still use the ashtrays in your vehicle for ashes, dump them out and then fill them about half way with baking soda. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then empty, rinse and dry.

Vinyl

Dissolve four tablespoons of baking soda in one quart of water. Wipe down the vinyl in your vehicle, including vinyl upholstery, with the mixture. If you have stains on the vinyl, pour some baking soda directly on a damp sponge and scrub at the stain. If you just spilled something you know is going to stain, sprinkle baking soda on the spill while it is still fresh. Brush it off or vacuum it after the baking soda absorbed all of the moisture.

Why Our 20 year/200,000 Mile Powertrain Protection Matters

When you purchase a new vehicle from Superior Hyundai North for personal use, you get the 20 year/200,000 mile powertrain protection. This protection plan is only available at Superior Hyundai North and could save you thousands of dollars.

Your Part

The powertrain protection plan doesn't cost you any extra money. It comes with new vehicles. However, you do have to abide by a few simple rules. Just get certain repairs and maintenance done at our service department; be sure to do the maintenance required by the protection plan; and do the maintenance on time. That's it! And you'll have this coverage that replaces covered powertrain components if something should happen down the line.

Coverage

The powertrain protection plan covers the engine and all of its internally lubricated parts, the engine block and the intake and exhaust manifolds. The engine block is only covered if it is damaged because an internally lubricated part caused the damage.

The transmission and transfer case, if applicable, and their internally lubricated parts are covered. As with the engine, the case itself is only covered if the damage is due to the malfunction of an internally lubricated part. This also includes the torque converter if applicable.

Drive axles, gear cases, housings and superchargers or turbochargers are also covered, again, if the internally lubricated parts, which are covered, damage the housings.

When you get the package for your vehicle, the complete protection plan coverage is outlined for you.

Tips for Cleaning Your Hyundai's Grille

Whether you just purchased a new vehicle from Superior Hyundai North or you have a Hyundai that is a year or two old, you're going to have bugs and grime all over the grille. When the grime is dried on, it can be difficult to remove.

Soap and Water

Use a non-abrasive soap and a soft bristle brush to help loosen the bugs and grime from the grille. Allow the soapy water to soak the grille for a few minutes, then rinse. You may have to repeat the process if you have stubborn spots.

You don't want to use anything abrasive as you will scratch the grille. If the grille has chrome on it, use a chrome cleaner after you get the bulk of the grime off. Always follow the instructions on the chrome cleaner. If you are not sure whether the grille is chrome or some other metal, just stick with the soap and water so you don't scratch the grille. If your grille is painted, when it's cleaned, be sure to add a coat of wax to it.

Dry the Grille

Once you have the grille cleaned, dry it off with a soft towel. If you drive the vehicle with a wet grille, the water will attract dust and more grime, and it will be more difficult to get it off. If the grille is painted, add a coat of wax to it, ensuring that you wipe all of the excess off.

Cautions

If the grille is made from hard plastic you can use wax on it, but do not use chrome cleaner or other cleaners other than mild soap and water, else it will scratch.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive a new vehicle or give our Hyundai service department a call to schedule an appointment for maintenance or repairs. If you need body work, including a new grille because the old one is scratched or cracked, give our parts department or body shop a call to order a grille.

News on the FCV

Hyundai is on track for releasing the second generation FCV next year. This hydrogen-powered vehicle will be geared more toward the private sector rather than commercial businesses that currently drive the ix35/Tucson fuel cell vehicle. While the new FCV won't be available at Superior Hyundai North anytime soon, you can keep your eyes and ears open for more information, including release dates and the progress of the hydrogen refueling infrastructure needed to support this vehicle.

The new FCV's design specs are being closely held by Hyundai, but the auto manufacturer has released that it will be available in white, blue and red. While production has been left-hand models, word is in the air that some right hand models, targeted for the United Kingdom, are also in the works.

New outlets believe the FCV will be an SUV that is similar to the ix35/Tucson; and, a design has been signed off on. However, Hyundai has not confirmed which body the FCV will have. The 2018 version also has another change. It will not be offered as a fourth model in the Ioniq family, but will stand alone. Success will be determined by public awareness of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and customer demand.

Hydrogen Success

Before hydrogen vehicles can become successful in the United States, the hydrogen refueling infrastructure has to be put in place. As more states get hydrogen refueling stations, auto manufacturers like Hyundai believe that hydrogen-powered vehicles will be very popular. With the appropriate infrastructure in place, hydrogen vehicles will be more popular than battery EV vehicles. Consumers will be able to fill up their hydrogen-powered vehicle just like they do with gas.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Stop by Superior Hyundai North or keep your eye on this space for more information about the FCV and the hydrogen refueling infrastructure as it becomes available.

Accessorize Your New Hyundai!

After you pick up your new Hyundai from Superior Hyundai North, accessorize it to make it more "yours." If you chose a lower trim level that didn't offer some of the options you wanted that are available in packages or just not available for your trim level, you can add those accessories; add accessories to make your Hyundai easier to clean; or accessories to add more utility to your Hyundai.

Remote Start

Add remote start to your vehicle if this is a feature that wasn't available for the trim level you chose. You can purchase a remote start kit and have the dealership install it. Choose from several different packages including packages with an alarm and remote entry.

Weather Proof Floor Mats

Instead of letting the nice carpeted floor mats in your new Hyundai get grungy, purchase rubber floor mats to use during the winter and wet spring months. You could even put them in before it rains during other seasons and take them out when you don't need them. Some floor mats have sides on them to keep spilled liquids and melting snow and ice from running off the sides and into the carpet.

Roof Racks and Accessories

Add a roof rack and you'll be able to swap out additional storage accessories such as a roof bike rack, roof cargo bin, ski rack and more. Whether you have a sedan or an SUV, a roof rack adds more utility and allows you to carry items that might be too long or big for the interior.

Spoilers

If your vehicle doesn't have a spoiler and you like the look, you can add a spoiler to certain models. Not only does it change the look of your vehicle, but it could increase gas mileage.

New Wheels

Add different wheels to change the look of your vehicle. Depending on the trim level, you choose from several different wheels.

Buzz Alert: The Hyundai Ioniq

The new Hyundai Ioniq, which won't be available at Superior Hyundai North and other Hyundai dealerships for some time, has been premiered in Seoul and, the hybrid model of the triple threat series will be debuted in April at the New York auto show.

Powertrains

The Ioniq will feature a hybrid, which will be released first, a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric vehicle. No other nameplate has created a triple threat with three green powertrains. Furthermore, the Ioniq is the first alternative-fuel vehicle that Hyundai has designed from start to finish. During the premiere in Seoul, the automaker stated that the hybrid model will have better fuel economy than the Toyota Prius.

Hyundai has released specs for the hybrid version, but not the plug-in hybrid or the all-electric version. The hybrid is expected to make 138 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The engine and electric motors are backed by a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with sport and Eco modes.

According to Reuters, Hyundai's claim of "class-leading fuel efficiency" is true as it is expected to get 57 miles per gallon, which is better than what the Prius gets.

Sales Expectations

A day prior to the Seoul premiere, Hyundai stated that it expects to move 77,000 units in 2017 once the staggered rollout has completed in 2016. The Ioniq is being sold in South Korea for $19,145, which is lower than the Prius C's U.S. MSRP. Hyundai has not released the pricing for its world markets.

After the hybrid has been released, Hyundai expects to release the plug-in hybrid and then the all-electric version.

Looks

The Ioniq takes cues from the Veloster, Elantra and some of the automaker's other smaller vehicles. You'll definitely see the Veloster in the rear. Since the design isn't "risky," you'll most likely base your decision on performance and fuel economy, according to Autos CheatSheet.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Keep your eye on this space for more information on the Ioniq as it becomes available or stop by Superior Hyundai North for more information. To see it in person, plan to visit the New York Auto Show in April.

Spring Cleaning Your Hyundai

Whether you just picked up a new vehicle from Superior Hyundai North or your Hyundai is a year or two old, you'll want to have some great spring cleaning tips to help keep the vehicle in great condition. If the vehicle is less than three or four months old, you could wait until next spring, but if it's older, it's a good idea to get some spring cleaning done.

Detailing the vehicle keeps the finishes looking new; and that includes the paint and the materials on the inside. During pollen seasons, it's also a good idea to wash your Hyundai more frequently; however, be sure to give it a good coat of wax during spring cleaning. And, do spring cleaning before pollen season!

Washing and Waxing

Wash and wax your vehicle to keep the paint shiny and new. About once per year, you might want to polish the paint. When you polish it, you heat up the clear coat and spread it evenly over the paint, thus getting rid of any blemishes. If you use a rubbing compound, take care not to use too much pressure as you'll ruin the clearcoat. Once you've polished the vehicle, you'll want to put a good coat of wax on it.

Interior Cleaning Tips

To get the dust in the air conditioning vents, use a foam brush or paint brush to disturb the dust. While doing that, have the vacuum running at the same time to suck up the disturbed dust. This combination also works on getting dust from behind the knobs and levers in your vehicle.

Replace the cabin air filter in your vehicle. An old filter starts to stink after a while. Spring cleaning is a good time to replace the filter so that your vehicle smells good again.

A Magic Eraser gets rid of any sticky substances from vinyl and leather. Be sure to test it on an inconspicuous spot, first, to make sure it doesn't discolor the material. If you can't seem to get dirt out of the vinyl textures, use a toothbrush to loosen it, and then vacuum it.

Pet hair is the bane of all drivers. Use a lint roller to get pet hair off the surfaces, including the head liner. For particularly stubborn hair in cloth seats, lightly spray the seats with a water bottle, and then use a squeegee to pull the hair into a pile.

Scrub cruddy carpeted floor mats with upholstery cleaner. Test it in an inconspicuous spot to ensure that it doesn't discolor the mats. For really stubborn stains, spray the stain with stain remover, and then throw the mats in the washer.

Benefits of Extended Warranties

Many people decline any extended warranties on vehicles, even those from Superior Hyundai North. However, a good extended warranty has its benefits in that it can save you a lot of money if you plan on keeping your vehicle longer than five years.

Choosing the Appropriate Warranty

When you choose an extended warranty, take into consideration the type of manufacturer's warranty that comes with the vehicle; and in the case of a new Hyundai, the 20/200 Powertrain Protection Plan. When you buy a Hyundai, you get a basic warranty of 60 months or 60,000 miles, roadside assistance for 60 months and an unlimited distance, a powertrain warranty of 120 months or 100,000 miles and a corrosion perforation warranty for 84 months and unlimited distance.

The extended warranty should pick up where the factory warranty leaves off, and should cover everything, if not more, than the factory warranty. Even if you keep the terms of the 20/200 Powertrain Protection Plan, you should have an extended warranty that also covers the powertrain in the event that something is not covered under 20/200 Powertrain Protection Plan. Always read extended warranty plans carefully so that you know what is covered.

Benefits of Choosing a Good Extended Warranty

Even if you take care of your vehicle by getting all of the recommended maintenance done, things can happen. Parts wear out, especially moving parts. An extended warranty may cover later break downs caused by age and usage. Furthermore, if something breaks in the engine or on the vehicle and damages another part, the extended warranty may cover that damage.

You may even find warranties that cover wear and tear items such as brakes. Do plenty of research to find a great warranty that covers everything your original warranty covered or more, and you'll be in good shape if you plan on keeping your Hyundai for over 5 years.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive a new vehicle and to ask about the warranty that comes with the vehicle and the 20/200 Powertrain Protection Plan so that you know which extended warranty will be most beneficial to you.

  • You know Jerry Springer as the mayor of Cincinnati instead of as a host of paternity reveals and epic catfights.

  • You know that Cincinnati is actually two cities: The part in Ohio and Covington, Kentucky, just across the river.

  • You know that the Roebling Suspension Bridge was the first Brooklyn Bridge.

  • You watch movies directed by Steven Spielberg just because he's a Cincinnati native.

  • You take high school rivalries seriously.

  • You're careful when you swim in the Ohio river because the local news always shows pictures of huge sci-fi fish that live in the river.

  • You know that Cincinnati was a stop on the Underground Railroad and you know that the best time to visit the best Underground Railroad is on Flame Fridays.

You Know You're From Cincinnati When…

If you bought your newest vehicle from Superior Hyundai North, you're most likely from Cincinnati. And, if you do certain things or day certain things, it's a fair bet that you know you're from Cincinnati. Meanwhile, if you've done or said any of these things on the list, add buying a car from us or getting your current car serviced at our service department.

  • You can't stop talking about "Rain Man" being filmed in Cincinnati.

  • You love to have arguments about whether to call fizzy drinks "soda" or "pop."

  • When you meet a new person the first question you ask is that person's name; and then you always ask which high school that person went to.

  • You refuse to drive through Over-the-Rhine and would rather take the long way around.

  • You already knew the Bengals would underachieve and disappoint you; and you were right, so you'll talk about that until the upcoming football season. At that time, you'll start all over again.

  • You refer to yourself as an "east-sider" or a "west-sider."

  • You have German heritage in your family.

  • You know that if you want the best chocolate chips in the world, you just have to head over to Graeter's.

  • For the best soft pretzels, you make a beeline to Servati's.

  • Instead of saying, "What did you say?" or "What?," you say "Please?"

  • You fall out when someone says someone else has better pizza than Larosa's.

  • Someone could put all the money in the world in your hands and you wouldn't swim in the Ohio River.

  • When people mention ribs, your mouth starts watering and you stop what you're doing and head right over to Montgomery Inn.

  • You ask for a three-way, which is a mixture of noodles, chili and cheese. If asked by someone not from Cincinnati, you deny any knowledge of any other meaning for the term.

  • You've experienced all four seasons in one week.

Hyundai Cookie Cutter

If you are still trying to figure out what to get the Hyundai lover in your family for Christmas, stop by Superior Hyundai North to pick up some accessories for the vehicle. From floor mats and interior storage solutions to spoilers and exterior storage solutions, you'll find just what that person on your list needs.

The Hyundai Cookie Cutter

You could also get the Hyundai lover on your list a cookie cutter from warpzoneprints.com. This company makes dishwasher safe cookie cutters using a 3D printer. The Hyundai cookie cutter is perfect for that person who loves Hyundai models and loves to bake. Or, get it for yourself and surprise the Hyundai lover in your family with Hyundai logo-shaped cookies.

Accessories from Superior Hyundai North

The Hyundai lover on your list would like rubber floor mats for the winter and early spring when it's muddy out. They will protect the carpets and the carpeted floor mats from getting ground-in mud and salty slush. They'll also keep the car from smelling like wet carpet since wet carpets take too long to dry out during the cold months.

Add a roof rack to your list. If the recipient already has a roof rack, add accessories such as a cargo bin, ski rack, bike rack or a kayak rack to make it easier to take the Hyundai on sporting trips.

If you have a model that doesn't feature remote start, you could always make the recipient on your list happy with a remote start as long as his or her Hyundai has an automatic transmission.

Additional ideas include a spoiler for a model that doesn't feature a spoiler, cargo storage to keep the trunk or rear cargo area organized, a first aid kit for the Hyundai, or extra cup holders.

For the person who loves to take road trips, you could even put together an emergency kit with an extensive first aid kit, extra blankets, an LED flashlight with extra batteries, a hatchet, tarp and other items that would be useful if one were to get stuck in a remote area.

Hyundai Launches 2017 Elantra for Sale this Spring

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra, soon to be available at Superior Hyundai North, was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto show; and it was a sight to see. This new version of the four-door sedan has many differences from the outgoing model. It even offers more safety and technology feature to go with the new upscale look.

Exterior Changes

The exterior of the Elantra takes many cues from the Sonata and other sedans. It features a larger grille like those on the Tucson and the Genesis, new lights including high-density discharge headlights in adaptive mode and a longer and wider body. Furthermore, the new Elantra features LED puddle lights, turn signals and taillights. And, you have some new colors to choose from for the 2017 model year.

Interior Changes

The interior has been completely changed; and it features a wider instrument panel, soft-touch materials, a multimedia screen that is easier for the driver to see, USB outlets for charging, Android radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio. And, the base level has more options to choose from. Base level options include an 8-inch screen with navigation or a 7-inch screen with a backup camera.

Safety Features

The Elantra has also upped its game when it comes to safety. The torsional rigidity has been increased by almost 30 percent. Because of this change, NVH levels and vehicle dynamics have improved. Also contributing to these improvements is a redesigned rear suspension. Additional safety features include a driver's knee airbag.

Options include a collision warning system, autonomous braking system, pedestrian detection, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.

3 Clever Car Tricks for Winter

Some people just jump in their vehicles and take off without deicing their vehicles. They tend to let the defroster do all of the work. This limits your vision and could cause you to crash and injure yourself or someone else on the road. Instead of causing a trip to our body shop at Superior Hyundai North yourself, take the time to clear all of the windows on your vehicle.

No More Icy Door Mirrors

Even if you have heated door mirrors, they'll take some time to clear of all ice. Instead of scraping them or waiting for the defroster to do its thing, cover them with plastic bags. Hold the bags on with a clothespin. When you're ready to leave, simply remove the plastic bags and save them for the next time you park.

Hate Scraping the Windshield and Back Window?

Cover the windshield with rubber bath mats to keep the ice from forming on the windshield. If the back window is slanted enough to hold the mats, cover it with the rubber bath mats, too. Be sure to leave the edge of the bath mats overhanging the side of your vehicle. If you get a ton of ice and snow, you won't be able to grab the edge to lift it up if it freezes over the top of the entire mat.

You'll still have to scrape the side windows so that you can see. Be sure to scrape all of the windows in their entirety so that you can see in your blind spot. If your vehicle has blind spot monitoring, do not rely on the computer systems to work properly until the vehicle has completely warmed up.

Ice Over Door Locks and Frozen Doors

If you can't get the key into the door lock or the lock is frozen shut, use a straw to blow into the lock. The warmth from your breath will defrost the lock enough so that you can get the key into it. You could also heat the key up with a lighter, but be careful that you don't get it too hot or the metal could bend when you try to turn the key.

If the doors are stuck shut, pour a couple gallons of hot water over the door. Pour about half of the water over the door, then try to open it. If it doesn't quite work, then you'll have additional hot water ready and waiting so that the first gallon doesn't freeze.

Thanksgiving Leftover Recipe

When you have leftover turkey, you could use the carcass plus the leftover meat to make some of the best turkey soup. Make a big batch and freeze or can the rest of it so you'll have soup for additional meals. If you are visiting relatives or friends and they don't keep the carcass, be sure to bring a sealable tub large enough to bring it home without spilling it in the new vehicle you just picked up from Superior Hyundai North.

Ingredients

  • The carcass from the turkey
  • 8 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 head of garlic cut in half crosswise
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme or 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups of skinless turkey meat, diced
  • 1 pound of frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 large potato, diced into ½-inch pieces
  • 1 cup dry pasta in your favorite shape
  • ¼ cup fresh dill sprigs, loosely packed, chopped or 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Put the carcass, cut up if necessary, the broth, garlic, bay leaves and thyme in a large Dutch oven. Add enough water to cover the carcass by an inch. Do not cover. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Lower the heat and simmer the mixture for about 40 minutes. Strain the soup with a fine-mesh strainer and discard the solids. Remove 2 cups of broth and set it aside. Put the rest of the broth back into the Dutch oven.

Add the turkey, vegetables and potatoes to the Dutch oven. Cover the soup and cook it over medium heat for 15 minutes. Add the pasta and cook the soup, uncovered, about 10 minutes or until the potatoes and the pasta are tender. Stir in the dill, pepper and salt.

If you have leftovers, freeze or can the soup for another meal. Serve with your favorite sandwich or bread and butter for dipping.

Best Mashed Potatoes

Wash the potatoes thoroughly. Cut them, skins on, into 2- to 3-inch cubes. Boil the potatoes until they are soft. Drain the potatoes. Meanwhile, melt 1 stick of butter in the same pan per 4 pounds of potatoes. Add the potatoes, ¼ cup milk, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Mash them to your preference. Taste. If you prefer more garlic, add it a teaspoon at a time.

Glazed Carrots

Boil baby carrots until they are al dente. Drain the carrots and set them aside. In the same pan, melt 3 tablespoons butter for each pound of carrots. Add ¾ cup dark brown sugar. Melt the sugar and butter together over low heat, stirring constantly. Add the carrots and cook for 5 to 6 minutes on low heat.

Succotash

If you can't find succotash in your grocery, you can make your own. You'll need two cans of creamed corn and one can of Lima beans, preferably baby Limas. Drain the Lima beans. Add the corn and the beans to a pot and heat the mixture over low heat until heated through.

Best Butternut Squash

Peel and clean the seeds from the squash. Cut the squash into 2- to 3-inch cubes. Boil it until it's soft. Drain the squash. Mash it with 3 tablespoons butter and ¼ cup light brown sugar. If you like it sweeter, add a bit more brown sugar.

Delicious Turkey Side Recipes for Thanksgiving

No Thanksgiving meal is complete without biscuits or cornbread. You can make your favorite recipes or try these great tried and true recipes. When you're out picking up the items you need to prepare Thanksgiving dinner, be sure to stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive a new vehicle if you've been considering something new before the end of the year. This way, you'll have something new to drive if you plan on taking a holiday weekend trip.

Melt in Your Mouth Biscuits

This recipe "cheats" by using Jiffy Mix. Make the biscuits as directed on the box, except substitute buttermilk for the liquid. If you use whole, thick buttermilk, you may need to add more than what is called for in the recipe.

Mix 3 tablespoons of butter with 1 tablespoon honey until the honey and butter are thoroughly incorporated. If you prefer a sweeter taste, add a bit more honey. Put the mixture in the microwave for 2-3 seconds and stir. Repeat until the mixture is loose enough to "paint" the top of the biscuits with a brush.

Paint the tops of the biscuits with the honey butter. Bake according to the instructions on the box. You may want to check them early, especially if you are using dark, nonstick pans. The honey butter will cause the tops to brown up quite a bit.

Sweet Cornbread

This is another "cheat" recipe that you can get away with calling homemade. You'll need a cast iron pan and either lard or bacon drippings, with the drippings being the first choice. Coat the sides and bottom of the cast iron pan with the bacon drippings.

Mix up two boxes of Jiffy Cornbread mix as directed, but use buttermilk instead of milk or water and add ½ cup of granulated sugar to the mix. Pour the mix into the prepared pan and bake as directed. Keep an eye on it - the dark pan makes it done sooner than the times listed on the box. The cornbread is done when a toothpick comes out clean when tested near the side of the mix.

Tips to Winterize Your Vehicle

It's time to winterize your vehicle; and it takes more than you might think to get it ready for winter. Start by calling the service department at Superior Hyundai North to schedule an appointment for service. Let the service adviser know that you want to have everything checked for winter.

Service Items

When you bring your vehicle in for service, be sure the technicians check everything on your list as some of those things may not be on the list of recommended service from the manufacturer. Your list should include the following: Change summer tires to snow tires or check all-season tires for proper tread wear and length of time until you need to change the tires; check the battery to ensure that it's has enough amperage and voltage; check the alternator to ensure that it is charging properly; check the brakes and check the ABS, traction control and electronic stability control systems to ensure everything is working properly.

Additionally, check the wipers to ensure they are not dry rotted or torn; check and change the wiper fluid if needed; check the antifreeze to ensure that it's not time to change it; and check the heating system if you haven't turned it on yet this year.

Emergency Kit

You probably already have an emergency kit in your vehicle, especially if you take road trips. However, now is the time to check everything and to rotate out older supplies. Supplies that should be rotated for fresh include fresh water, non-perishable high energy food and batteries for the flashlight. Be sure to check and change the batteries in the light and the extra batteries.

Every passenger including the driver should have a blanket and a change of warm, dry clothing. If you do happen to get stuck or break down and someone can't get to you for hours, you'll be glad for the warmth the blankets and extra clothing provide.

Check the first aid kit to make sure nothing has expired and to ensure that everything you need is still in the kit.

Fun Fall Decorations

On your way back from Superior Hyundai North, stop by your favorite craft store to pick up the things you need to make some fun fall decorations. You can make table décor or even decorate the door arches in your home. Have fun making decorations to give your home some fall atmosphere.

Table Basket Decor

Pick up a wire or wicker basket, some fall garland, small pumpkins or gourds and tea lights. You may already have jelly canning jars in your home, but if not, you could find those at the craft store or department store. Line the basket with the fall garland, and then arrange the pumpkins or gourds in the basket. Add a few stones or marbles to the bottom of the jars, and then add a scented tea light to each jar. Arrange the jars amongst the pumpkins or gourds.

Decorate the Steps and Porch

Set a pumpkin on each step or line some up across the front of your porch. Wrap garland with fall colors and berries around the pumpkins so it looks like they are all attached. If you want to see the pumpkins at night add candles in mason jars around them. Just remember to blow out the candles when the evening is over.

Spruce up the End Tables

For this project, you'll need a decorative bowl for each table, real leaves that are colorful or fake leaves in fall colors, and several small pumpkins or gourds. Place the pumpkins or gourds in the bowl. Tuck the leaves in with the pumpkins and gourds around the outside of the bowl so that it looks like the pumpkins are nested in the leaves. Place several bowls with leaves and pumpkins around the house. Add potpourri scented with spices to add a fall odor to your home.

Your Ultimate Checklist for Buying Your New Hyundai

When you decide it's finally time to purchase or lease a new Hyundai, you'll need to determine which features the vehicle should have so that you can test drive the vehicles you are interested in and make the car-buying process nice and easy. Before you head over to Superior Hyundai North, make a list of the features you want in your next vehicle and a list of questions you might have for the salesperson.

Convenience and Entertainment Features

Which convenience features would you like to have in your new vehicle? Some trim levels have a power driver's seat, but not a power passenger seat. If a power passenger seat is a must, be sure to add this to your list. Most models features front dual-zone air conditioning, but if you must have tri-zone air conditioning, ask to see vehicles with this feature.

Ask about leather or cloth seats. If you prefer leather, you may have to order it as an option on some of the lower trim levels. Memory functions for the driver also come on certain trim levels. If memory for the seat, steering column and mirrors is important, be sure to ask which models and trim levels offer this feature.

If an extensive entertainment system is one of your requirements, be sure to ask which vehicles include this. Some may features DVD players for rear seat passengers; and these are great when you are taking long road trips with children. You may want a premium audio system with upgraded speakers. Or you may want all of the bells and whistles including SiriusXM radio, HD radio and third party apps including Pandora.

Safety Features

Most people want a new vehicle with all of the safety features including a backup camera, parking sensors, blind spot warning, forward collision mitigation and adaptive cruise control. If these are on your wish list, be sure to ask which models feature them as standard features or which models offer them as optional equipment. These features may not be available on certain models and trim levels.

Pumpkin Spice Cake Recipe

After you pick up your new car from Superior Hyundai North, pick up the ingredients you'll need to make this moist pumpkin spice cake recipe. You can make it with a box mix or your favorite homemade spice cake recipe.

Ingredients

Cake:

  • Your favorite spice cake recipe or box mix, enough for one cake
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 15-ounce can of pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie mix, but pure pumpkin)

Frosting:

  • 2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 5 cups confectioner's sugar

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are using a dark or nonstick pan, preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray the bottoms only of three 9-inch round cake pans with baking spray with flour or grease and flour the bottoms only.

Beat the ingredients for the cake mix as directed by your favorite box mix or make your favorite recipe for spice cake, including the pumpkin. Divide the batter evenly among the three pans. Bake the cake 24 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the cakes for 10 minutes, and then remove them from the pans to finish cooling on wire racks. When the cakes are cooled completely, you are ready to work with them.

While the cakes are cooling, beat the cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer on low speed in a large bowl. Beat in the confectioner's sugar 1 cup at a time, until the mixture is smooth. Refrigerate the frosting for about 30 minutes or until it reaches a good consistency to spread.

Place the first layer of cake with the rounded side down on a serving plate. Spread about ¾ cup of the frosting over the top of the cake, leaving about ¼ inch around the edge unfrosted. Place the second layer with the rounded side up and spread it with about ¾ cup of frosting. Repeat with the third layer, rounded side up. Spread the rest of the frosting on the side of the cake. Keep the cake covered and stored in the fridge.

Halloween Costume Ideas for Couples

Halloween isn't just for kids. Adults can have fun dressing up, too; and it's sometimes recommended when you attend Halloween parties at nightclubs. Get your vehicle serviced at Superior Hyundai North or stop by to test drive a new vehicle to get ready to head out to the spooky parties around the area; and then start working on your costumes.

Costume Ideas

Dress as Wonder Woman and Kratos; the Scarlet Witch from X-Men and The Vision from The Avengers; Zombie Gambit and Defenz Mechaniszm; Super Mario Brothers; a renaissance couple; a pair of evil pirates; Ken and Barbie; Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers; and This and That.

Putting the Costumes Together

To find the appropriate clothing for the costumes, you may have to visit craft stores and get handy with a glue gun and a sewing machine. Make use of sweatshirts for the body of costumes. Not only are they inexpensive, but if the costume allows for long sleeves, you'll be a lot warmer. And, sweatshirts are easy to make into what you need for the base. You can sew or glue the appropriate decorations on the costumes when you use sweatshirts. Of course, you could always buy adult costumes online or from department stores.

Dress Up Your Hyundai, Too!

While you're at it, dress up your car to match your costumes. If you go as Santa and Mrs. Claus, dress up your car to look like Santa's sleigh. If you go as Superman and Lois Lane, give your car a cape, too. If you choose Ken and Barbie, make your car look like the Barbie-mobile.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive a new vehicle in time for Halloween; or give our service department a call to schedule an appointment for maintenance, repairs or just to have your vehicle checked. If you're doing any kind of traveling for Halloween and you haven't had your vehicle in for maintenance in over 30 days, it's a good idea to have the belts, hoses, fluids, brakes and tires checked. We'll top off the fluids if needed; and will check for leaks.

Exercises to Do in Your Hyundai While in Traffic

When you buy or lease a new Hyundai from Superior Hyundai North, your commute is more comfortable, especially if your old car was more than just a few years old. You can add even more to your commute by doing some exercises while you are stuck in traffic. This will give you more time to yourself, since you can spend less time at the gym. And, if you're stuck in traffic for more than 15 minutes, you'll get quite a bit of workout in while you're not doing anything better.

Seated Twist

This exercise has two parts. A passenger could do the first part, but the steering wheel gets in the way of the driver, so the driver could only do the second part. Plant your feet on the floor and let your arms rest to your sides. Lift your back away from the seat back and touch your forehead to your pelvic bowl. Inhale while you lift your head toward the ceiling without lifting your chin.

Exhale while you are drawing your belly in and then twist to the right, and then to the left. While twisting to the right, place your left hand on the center console; and while twisting to the left, place your right hand on the arm rest.

Work Your Core

Strengthen your arms, back, shoulders and core at the same time by placing your hands against the roof. At the same time, push up with your hands and squeeze your abs. Hold this position for 10 seconds, then release your muscles. Repeat this exercise as many times as possible. To add to this exercise, you can lift one leg off the floor and hold it up while holding your abs tight for the 10 seconds.

Strengthen Your Arms

You might want to do this exercise when it's cooler out since you need to open your window for this one. Lift both arms out to the side. Keep your left palm up and your right palm down. Switch palm positions in sets of 50, all while keeping your arms straight out to the sides. You won't feel this at first, so you won't think this is doing any good, but when you reach 40 reps, you'll start to feel the muscles in your arms. Rest for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat with another set of 50.

Spiked Punch

This recipe is definitely for adults only. You won't be able to taste the liquor, so warn your guests not to drink too much of it. And the grain alcohol in this punch doesn't hit you until after you drink it, so you might want to warn anyone that hasn't had grain to wait a good half hour before they pour another glass.

  • 1 gallon Hawaiian Punch, red
  • ½ gallon peach juice
  • 1 pint grain alcohol
  • ½ pint vodka
  • Ice
  • Fresh or frozen raspberries for garnish

Mix all ingredients in a large punch bowl. Mix well, then add ice. Garnish with the raspberries.

Children's Punch

This punch is more suited to a party where children will be present.

  • 1 gallon Hawaiian Punch, red
  • ½ gallon peach juice
  • 1 liter ginger ale
  • Ice
  • Fresh or frozen raspberries

Mix all ingredients in a large punch bowl. Mix well, then add the ice and garnish the punch with raspberries. You can make several variations of this by using different flavors of Hawaiian Punch or other juice for the main ingredient.

If you use orange, thinly slice oranges, then cut a slit in each slice. Twist them and partially freeze them, then add to the punch. You can also use orange wedges in the punch. For grape juice, garnish with purple grapes if the punch is light and green grapes if the punch is made using dark grape juice.

If you are looking for quick and easy seat covers to protect your legs from hot or cold seat if you don't have heated or ventilated seats; something to protect the back of your seats from your pets or just want to give your Hyundai from Superior Hyundai North a personal touch, then you can make your own seat covers. Use any of these tips or even a combination of tips to create something that is useful or just for looks.

Child Car Seats

To protect your child's car seat, use a fitted bassinet sheet to cover the seat. It helps keep food from being mushed into the seat and keeps the seat cool if the seat is made of dark material.

Leather Seats

If you don't have heated or ventilated seats and they are leather, those seats can get too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. Use memory foam bath mats on the seat to protect your legs from the hot or cold seats. You can find them in many colors and sizes in bath stores or department stores. If the smallest bath mat is too long, just tuck the excess in the crack between the seat and seat back. If the seats are wider, just put the mat on sideways across the seat. And, since the mats are machine washable, they are easy to clean and are great to keep your seats clean and protected from the sun.

Car Seat Covers

If you often travel with pets or kids who like snacks in the car, you'll find yourself having to clean pet hair, drool from pets or even food from kids from the backs of your seats. Sometimes, this is just a major undertaking if something stains. Keep the backs of your front seats clean and hair-free by sliding a T-shirt over the seat. When they get dirty, simply take them off and wash them.

For the back seat, use an old quilt or bedspread. Tuck it in on the sides of the seat back and the crack between the seat and the back to hold it in place.

How to Be Prepared for Driving in Inclement Weather

It's still early in the fall, but you still should be prepared to drive in inclement weather if winter decides to show up early. You can do several things to get ready for snow and ice, including having your tires checked at our service department at Superior Hyundai North.

Tires

If you have all-season tires, have them checked to ensure they have plenty of tread and that they are not wearing unevenly. You'll also want to ensure that your vehicle's tires are balanced properly. Sometimes weights can be knocked off; and this will cause the tire to vibrate at certain speeds.

If you have summer tires, you'll need to change over to winter tires or all-season tires. You may have winter tires stored; and if you do, you'll need to have them checked, balanced and installed soon.

Emergencies

Because roads are slippery during the winter, even if they have been treated, you'll need to put an emergency kit in your vehicle if you don't have one made yet. If you do have an emergency kit, go through it and make sure the extra batteries are fresh, the flashlight has fresh batteries, rotate the extra water and high-energy food and make sure the first aid kit is complete.

If you took out the extra blankets and change of clothing, put those things back in. If you happen to get stranded because of a break down or because you slid off the road, you'll be able to stay warm. Also be sure you have matches or at least two lighters so you can start a fire if you slide off the road in a remote area where you can't get to a warm place.

Wipers

Check your wiper blades to ensure that they are not dry-rotted and that they are working properly. They'll need to be in good condition to remove the snow, sleet and road slush off the window so that you can see where you are going.

Mechanical

Have your vehicle serviced or checked to ensure that everything is working properly and that certain parts are not nearing the end of their useful life. Doing this lessens the chance that you might break down in the cold.

Car Seat Safety Month

Car seat safety is much more than installing the seat correctly. When you pick up a new vehicle from Superior Hyundai North, it will most likely have the LATCH system for child seats. This helps keep your children safe, as long as you choose the correct car seat for your child.

Choosing a Car Seat

Not only do you have to choose a car seat appropriate to you child's size and age, but you also have to find one that fits in your vehicle. You shouldn't buy a used seat unless you know that it has not been in an accident and that it meets regulations.

Each seat has height and weight requirements and you should keep the seat as long as your child meets those requirements. As soon as your child grows to be too big for your current car seat, you'll need to pick up the next size. Another safety tip is to not let your children ride in the front seat until he or she is at least 12 years old.

Birth to 12 Months and 1 to 3 Years

If your child is less than 12 months, he or should should be riding in a rear-facing car seat. Keep your child in this seat until he or she reaches the maximum height and weight. If your child is under 3 years and can still ride comfortably facing the rear, but grows out of the original car seat, you should pick up a new sat that will face forward or rearward. To save money, find an all-in-once seat as it allows you to keep your child facing the rear for a longer period of time since the weight and height limits are higher.

1 to 3 Years and 4 to 7 Years

Once your reaches 4 years, he or she can sit in a forward facing car seat. However, if a child who is 1 to 3 years is large for his or her age and meets the minimum requirements of sitting in a forward facing seat, you can turn the seat around. Keep in mind that the child is safer facing rearward.

Once you put your child in a forward facing seat, be sure to use a harness and tether until the child grows to the top weight or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer.

4 to 7 Years and 8 to 12 Years

Once your child outgrows the forward facing car seat, he or she is ready for a booster seat. Depending on your child's weight and height, he or she could be ready for a booster seat as early as 4 years. Even with a booster seat, children should still ride in the back seat.

Once your child grows tall enough to be secured safety by a seat belt without the belt resting on the child's neck, you can get rid of the booster seat. The seat belt should ride across the upper thighs, not on the stomach. When the belt fits properly across the thighs and the shoulder, your child is ready to ride without a booster seat.

Top 3 Places to Get a Car Wash in Cincinnati

Whether you just drove home a new vehicle from Superior Hyundai North or you've had your Hyundai for a while, you'll want to know where to get the best car wash. If you're rolling your eyes at the thought of washing your car, keep in mind that maintaining the exterior of your vehicle keeps its worth up. You'll always get more money on a trade or a private sale if the paint is in excellent condition.

Dirt and grime wear on the paint, as does the sun and other harsh weather. Keeping the dirt and grime off means the paint lasts longer since the minerals in the grime don't eat through the paint. The sun's ultraviolet rays and the nasty weather that Cincinnati can sometimes get also wears on the paint by fading it and wearing it out. Keeping your vehicle washed and waxed protects the paint from everything Mother Nature throws at it.

Hyundai features a 60-month or 60,000-mile basic warranty, 60-month with unlimited distance roadside assistance coverage, a 120-month or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and an 84-month with unlimited distance corrosion perforation warranty.

Safety and Security Features

Safety and security features are almost the same. The 2013 and 2015 model years both feature brake assist, ABS brakes, four-wheel disc brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, a security system and panic alarm, perimeter/approach lights, ignition disable, an occupant-sensing airbag, dual front impact airbags, dual front side impact airbags, an overhead airbag, fully automatic headlights with delay off, front fog lights, variably intermittent wipers, a low tire pressure warning system, rear window defroster and speed-sensitive wipers.

In 2013, the Sonata Limited made 198 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 184 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. Best Summer Dessert Recipes

Once you pick up the new car you just test drove from Superior Hyundai North, stop at the store to pick up ingredients for a cookout to celebrate your new purchase. You'll want to have a special summer dessert, too, so be sure to pick up some triple sec and tequila for strawberry margarita ice pops.

Strawberry Margarita Ice Pops

  • 1 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed - about 6 to 8 limes
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup triple sec
  • ¼ cup tequila
  • ½ cup superfine sugar
  • 1 pint strawberries, hulled, washed and quartered - set aside 8 quarters for later
  • 8 ice pop molds

Add the water, lime juice, liquors and sugar to a blender. Blend the mixture until the sugar is dissolved. Add the strawberries except the 8 quarters you set aside. Blend the mixture until the strawberries are pureed.

Stick each of the 8 reserved strawberries onto each of the ice pop sticks. Pour an equal amount of the mixture into each ice pop mold. Put the sticks into the mold. Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight and enjoy.

If you want to make a non-alcoholic version for the kids or for those who do not drink, substitute an additional ½ cup water and ¼ cup lime juice for the liquors.

Sangria Ice Pops

  • 1 750-ml bottle of fruity red wine
  • 1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice
  • ¼ cup simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons red grape juice
  • 2 apples, cored and chopped
  • 2 oranges, chopped
  • 2 pears, chopped

Simmer the wine in a saucepan until you have about 2 ½ cups (reduce it). While the wine is hot, add all other ingredients and let the mixture set overnight in the fridge. Strain the mixture and fill ice pop molds with the juice. Freeze until solid.

National Simplify Your Life Week - Ways to Organize Your Hyundai

Depending on which model Hyundai you buy from Superior Hyundai North, your vehicle may already have tons of compartments for organizing things you need. However, if you need more ways to organize your Hyundai, you can pick up several types of organizers.

Organize Your Music

Instead of having tons of jewel cases scattered all over your vehicle, pick up some cases for the CDs. If you like to listen to different genres, pick up a case for each genre. The type that slides over the visor are great since you don't have to flip "pages." This also makes it safer to drive since you can find a CD at a glance.

Organize Your Glove Box

If you have a deep glove box, it can be difficult to find things that are on the bottom. Pick up a glove box organizer to separate the storage space into sections. This makes it easier to grab your vehicle's owner's manual and the folder with your registration and insurance.

Organizing Helpers for the Trunk or Cargo Space

Instead of taking extra time to tie grocery bags so they don't spill while you are driving, pick up a cargo net or bar to hold the bags upright and within reach. Some cargo bars features nets to hold groceries. You can also pick up cargo space organizers that have sides to hold your things in place.

Exterior Storage

If you often carry a lot of luggage or other items and need the cargo space for other things, pick up a cargo box for the roof or for the hitch. Storing larger things outside frees up space for other things inside the vehicle.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Stop by Superior Hyundai North to pick up accessories to organize your Hyundai. If you are picking up a new vehicle, ask your salesperson about organizers, roof cargo boxes and hitch cargo boxes for your specific vehicle.

Hamburger Recipes for a Cookout

When planning a cookout, put a twist on the typical hamburgers by using a different recipe. You can still have the same form and shape - along with all of the fixings. And, when planning a cookout, if it's part of a road trip, you should have your vehicle checked at Superior Hyundai North before you leave. Even if you just had your vehicle serviced in the past few months, it's a good idea to have everything checked before a road trip.

Boondock House Burgers

  • 2 pounds of Angus burger
  • 1 medium green pepper, diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp. Garlic powder*
  • 2 tsp. Onion powder*
  • 1 tsp. Salt*
  • 2 tsp. Black pepper*
  • 1 tsp. Cayenne pepper*
  • 1 to 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce*
  • 1 tsp. Liquid hickory smoke
  • 1 tsp. Tabasco sauce*
  • 1 tsp. Louisiana Hot Sauce *
  • Your favorite cheese - pepper jack is great on these
  • Fresh tomatoes, lettuce and onions
  • Pickles
  • Condiments

* Spices are to taste - add more of the hot stuff if you like spicy, add less if you like less than mild. If you're a garlic fiend, add more garlic.

Mix all dry spices together well in a small bowl. In a large bowl, whip the eggs. Add the tomato sauce and the liquid spices. Mix well. Add the burger, bread crumbs and the vegetables. Mix well. Form into patties that are a generous inch thick and 5-6 inches across. Cook on the grill to your specifications. Top with your favorite cheese about 2-3 minutes before the burgers are done.

Be sure to prep sliced tomatoes, lettuce, sliced onions and pickles. Have ketchup, mustard and relish ready.

Serve with potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, fries, baked potato. If you're cooking this inside because your cookout got rained out, make mashed potatoes and gravy to go with it.

If you are considering a new Hyundai this summer, stop by Superior Hyundai North before you leave for the cookout so you can drive in style. Otherwise, be sure to call our service department for a service appointment.

Ways to Conserve Gas

Even when gas prices are down, you can't count on them to stay down, so it's always a good idea to conserve gas when you can. By changing your driving habits you can conserve gas - and when it's time to buy a new vehicle, you can choose something from Superior Hyundai North that gets excellent gas mileage.

Change Your Driving Habits

When you are approaching a stop light or a slow line of traffic, slow down well ahead of time. If the light changes or the line starts to move, you may not have to start from a dead stop. This will save gas as your vehicle won't have to work as hard to get back up to speed.

Keep your distance from the vehicle in front of you. Not only is it safer, but if that person doesn't keep a constant speed, you'll be able to - and that will help you save gas. Slowing down and going uses more gas than keeping your speed constant. Use cruise control when you can. This helps keep a constant speed so you'll save on gas.

Buy an Economical Vehicle

When it's time to purchase a new vehicle, choose something that is as economical as you can get. If you need an SUV, choose something that has good fuel mileage ratings. If you need a sedan, consider buying a hybrid to help on gas costs. Whichever suits your family's needs, you'll find it on our showroom floor - even the luxury Genesis.

Drive Less

Even if you cannot make less trips, change the way you do things. Instead of going straight home after work, stop by the grocery if it's closer to your work. Combine errands and do them on one day. Be sure to hit each store in the order you pass them so you are not doubling back over and over again.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Stop by Superior Hyundai North to pick out an economical car - and then change your driving habits and how - and when - you shop so that you can save even more on gas.

Coolest Hyundai Paint Jobs

If you're looking for the coolest Hyundai paint jobs at Superior Hyundai North, your tastes may find something great on any of the models, especially the Hyundai Veloster, Genesis coupe or Genesis. If you're looking for a specialty paint job, you may be able to order certain colors from the factory, but other than that, you'll have to take the vehicle to a body shop to have anything super cool done.

Candy Apple

If you like a paint job that looks like a deep pool of red, go for the candy apple red. This is not just a color, it's a process. Usually, a base paint of gold is painted over the primer. Then many layers of clearcoat with candy apple red tint is painted on the vehicle. While this paint job is one of the coolest colors, it is also one of the hardest paint jobs to touch up. It's nearly impossible because of the number of layers of paint required to achieve the desired affect.

Glittery Pearl

Choose a color, then add metal flake and mother of pearl to the paint to get a unique look. You won't notice this trick paint as much if it's dark; however, under lights or the bright sun, you'll see sparkles and veins of pearl in the paint. You can use metal flake and mother of pearl in any color of paint.

Chameleon

A paint job that was popular in racing circles, but is rarely seen on daily drivers is chameleon. This is because the paint itself is very expensive - and if it's scratched, is nearly impossible to touch up. As your Hyundai is driving down the road, the paint changes colors based on the amount of light and other object around the vehicle.

Stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive a new vehicle or visit our body shop to discuss painting your Hyundai with some trick paint jobs.

Before you head out to some of the best hot springs in the United States, be sure to have your vehicle serviced at Superior Hyundai North - better yet, stop by to test drive your next new vehicle so you can enjoy that new car smell all the way to your destination and back again. Hot Springs, North Carolina

If time is short, you can still enjoy some hot springs. Head over to North Carolina's Hot Springs in the Appalachian Mountains. Main Street in Hot Springs is actually part of the Appalachian Trail and you can follow it into the Pisgah National Forest. In addition to the 16 riverside tubs at the Hot Springs Resort and Spa, you can fish, raft or kayak the French Broad River. The ruins of a hotel and bathhouse built in 1884 are still on the grounds. The springs have been used by white settlers since 1778; however, the Cherokee used the springs long before Europeans showed up.

Bath County, Virginia

Visit the twin villages of Warm Springs and Hot Springs in Bath County, Virginia to take in the Allegheny Mountains, tons of trails and fishing lakes. You'll also get to visit The Homestead - the resort that operates Jefferson Pools. The octagonal building was built in 1761 and our third president bathed there. The building is America's oldest spa structure that is still in existence. Additionally, the 3,000 acres features golf courses, ski slopes, trails, guest rooms, restaurants and a spa.

Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Visit the world's largest man-made hot springs in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The pool is 505 feet long; and it is refilled every day with 3.5 million gallons of mineral water. The pool features 100-yard long slides, at the 90-degree end. The other end of the pool is 104 degrees. A building built in 1888 houses the pool's locker room, a spa and an athletic club.

Nearby, you'll find America's only known vapor caves. These are Mother Nature's 110-degree steam bath. This area also has a spa. This area is between Vail and Aspen but at a lower altitude and is much easier on your pocket.

National Stay Out Of The Sun Day

Before National Stay Out of the Sun Day hits - July 3, 2015, stop by Superior Hyundai North to test drive a new Hyundai. On this "holiday," you should plan to stay in and relax if you don't have to go to work.

The National Stay Out of the Sun Day reminds you that the suns rays can damage your skin and even cause cancer; and it's a reminder to stay in the shade. While you do need some sun to help your body produce vitamin D, more sun than you need - because of the ultraviolet rays - causes sunburn and a depressed immune system in addition to skin caner and quicker aging of your skin.

If you must be out in the sun because of work or because it is the only day you have free to go car shopping, be sure to use some type of sunscreen. If possible, an umbrellas that is designed to protect against the sun's ultraviolet rays is helpful.

Sun Day is celebrated throughout the world. This year, it happens to fall on a Friday, so you might be able to make a long weekend of it because of the 4th of July. Be sure to remember your sunscreen when you go out to celebrate the 4th of July. If you planned to have a picnic at a park, choose a shady spot or find a pavilion so you can stay out of the sun on Friday and Saturday.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Be sure to stop by Superior Hyundai North this week to test drive a new vehicle. Be sure to remember your sunscreen or talk to your salesperson inside or in a shady outdoor spot. Ask your salesperson about any finance or lease specials we may be running on our vehicles; and ask about military and student discounts if those apply to you.

Pack extra every-day clothing. If you get caught in the rain or spill something, you'll want an extra change of clothing or two.

If you or family members are on medication, be sure to pack a week's worth of extra medication. You should never carry medication out of the bottle as you could be arrested; however, if you only have enough for the trip, be sure to get your meds refilled before you leave and bring the extra refill with you.

The Perfect Summer Road Trip

The perfect summer road trip is not defined by your destination, but how you plan the trip. A perfect trip is one without any hitches, including flat tires and vehicle break downs. When you plan everything ahead of time, including having your vehicle checked or serviced at Superior Hyundai North, you have less chance of a trip interruption.

Vehicle Prep

Even if you just had your vehicle maintenance completed, you should have it thoroughly checked before you leave. Call our service department to make an appointment and we will check the brakes, fluids, hoses, belts, steering, suspension and anything else you think might need to be checked.

We'll recommend whether we think anything is going to fail on your trip or will recommend repairing a leak if we find low fluids caused by a leak. When you vehicle has been thoroughly checked, you can take a road trip with one less thing on your mind.

Reservations

Once you make reservations, check them again a day or two before you leave, especially if these are reservations you made more than a few weeks prior. Checking reservations ensures that the hotel or restaurant actually made the reservations and that they didn't get "canceled by mistake."

Kids' Entertainment

Make sure you have plenty for the kids to do on the road trip. This will eliminate - or hopefully eliminate - fighting, crying, boredom and the incessant, "Are we there yet?" If your kids are old enough for electronics, be sure to have a car charger for each device.

Make a List

Make a list of everything you want to bring with you so you don't forget anything. Be sure to check the list twice and put your eyes on everything on the list. Don't assume you "think" you packed something. Double check your wallet or purse before you leave to make sure credit cards, license, cash and anything else that is supposed to be in there is actually in there.

Visit Superior Hyundai North

Be sure to call Superior Hyundai North for a service appointment to have your vehicle maintained, repaired or checked. If you're thinking of a new vehicle, test drive a new Hyundai for your road trip.

You Know You're From Cincinnati When?

From the chili you prefer on top of your "Three Way" to the cities and states you despise because of sports rivalries, being from Cincinnati isn't unlike being from anywhere else in the country. And that's why you love living here so much. The following are 15 ways you know you're a Cincinnati local.

  1. You get into debates about whether it's "soda" or "pop," but you'll always believe "pop" is the correct term.
  2. You judge people by what Kroger they visit, and if you haven't been to that one, you get insanely lost.
  3. You do not like the city of St. Louis, or Pittsburgh for that matter.
  4. You know that the movie Rain Man was filmed in Cincinnati.
  5. You're more concerned about where people went to high school than college.
  6. You known Servati's serves up the best soft pretzels.
  7. You know that a Three Way includes spaghetti, chili and cheese.
  8. You know where George Clooney was born (Cincinnati of course).
  9. You wonder why the nearest international airport is actually located in Kentucky.
  10. You would never swim in the Ohio River.
  11. You always avoid driving directly through Over-the-Rhine.
  12. You know that Oprah chose Greaters chocolate chips as one of her favorite things, and you agree that they're the best in the world.
  13. You bank on the Reds making it to the World Series at the start of every baseball season. You also hate missing opening day and have been known to call in sick to make it to games.
  14. There are so many bridges crossing the river that every time you do it, you never know exactly which one to take.
  15. You know the best place in town to find your new vehicle is at Superior Hyundai North, at 5665 Dixie Hwy., in Fairfield.

Stop in and see us to shop for your dream summer road trip vehicle right here at Superior Hyundai North. We offer a wide selection of new and used vehicles for unbeatable prices.

The Ultimate Road Trip Playlist

Before you head out on a road trip, stop by Superior Hyundai North to have your vehicle serviced. Even if you recently had it serviced, you should have it checked over before you leave. Our experienced technicians will check the brakes, steering, suspension, belts, hoses and tires to ensure that everything is in good shape. You'll need to pack for you trip, and you'll need to create a great road trip playlist.

For soothing music, add Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel, Strawberry Fields by the Beatles, and The Chair by George Strait. If you prefer upbeat music and like the big hair music from the 1980s, add Black Cat by Janet Jackson, Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, Little Red Corvette by Prince and Straight Up by Paula Abdul.

If you prefer to stick with one genre or prefer to listen to whole CDs by one artists, add George Strait's 50 Greatest Hits, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, U2's Achtung Baby, Johnny Cash's American Recordings, and Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin IV.

No matter what you choose, be sure to choose music that suits you - and if your family's tastes vary widely, be sure to pick songs from genres that are enjoyed by the other family members. If your children's music is to crazy for you, let them listen to their MP3 player with ear phones. Regardless of what you choose, it shouldn't be distracting to the driver.

A varied playlist is better so you can listen to soft music while you are in traffic as it helps you to keep calm. Rock, punk and other "head banging" music should be reserved for the highway.

Road Trip Activities For The Kids

When you are on a long road trip with younger kids, they get bored fast. If you have plenty of things for them to do, you won't have to hear the endless "Are we there yet?" or fighting between the kids. Before you leave, get the crafts and activities ready and have your vehicle serviced at Superior Hyundai North. Or, if you are considering a new vehicle, test drive it now so you'll have the new car on your upcoming trip.

Finger Knitting

If your kids want to knit or crochet because they see you doing it, but are too young to manage a hook or needles - or because they can't quite grasp the concept yet, teach them to finger knit. The knitting makes a thin strip of stocking stitch. When you get enough, you can sew them together for a large blanket or throw.

Cast on by facing your palm toward you. Weave the yarn over your first finger - the index finger - then under the middle finger, over the ring finger and under and around the pinky finger, back under the ring finger, over middle finger and under the index finger.

Wrap the yarn around the index finger and alternate over and under again, then around the pinky and back to the index finger. Make sure you keep the stitches loose enough to pull the yarn over the top of your fingers.

Starting with the little finger, lift the bottom row - the row closest to your wrist - over the tip of your finger. Make sure the top row stays on your finger. Working toward your index finger, repeat the step for all fingers.

To make the next row, weave the yarn around your fingers again. Start at the index finger, go around the pinky finger and back to the index finger. Lift the bottom row over the new row you just made. Repeat until the strip is as long as you want it. As you get more rows, you'll see a strip forming.

Do not weave the last row. Cast off by lifting the stitch off the pinky finger and sliding it onto the ring finger. Lift the bottom stitch on the ring finger over the stitch you just moved from the pinky finger. Move the new stitch on the ring finger to the middle finger. Lift the bottom stitch on the middle finger over the new stitch you just transferred. Move the middle finger stitch to the index finger, then lift the bottom stitch over the top. You should end with just one stitch on your index finger. Remove it and pass the end of the yarn through the loop and tighten it.

Delicious Recipes For The Summer

If you want something different for summer desserts, you can make mini cheesecakes. These are great for picnics, even if you are not in your own backyard. Before you head out to the parks or load up the cooler for a party on a pontoon boat, be sure to have your vehicle checked and serviced if necessary at Superior Hyundai North. Once your vehicle has been checked or serviced, you're ready to head to the lake or park.

Mini Cheesecakes

  • 12 Nilla Wafers
  • 2 blocks cream cheese
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 tub whipped topping

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners. Put a Nilla Wafer in the bottom of each liner. Beat the cream cheese until it's fluffy. Add the eggs, sugar and lemon juice and mix until the mixture is smooth.

Fill the cupcake liners ¾ full. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 17 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool the mini cheesecake in the pan on cookie racks. When the pans are cool enough to touch and the cheesecake set, remove them from the pan to finish cooling.

If you are going to take these on the road, put the cooled cheesecake in an airtight plastic container. Keep it on ice in the top of the cooler. When you get to your destination, you can finish them off.

Finish off by topping with the cherry pie filling. When you are ready to serve, add a dollop of whipped topping.

Alternatives

Substitute blueberry pie filling.

Make you own strawberry filling. Hull and wash strawberries. Cut them in half - you'll need about 2 to 2 ½ cups. Bring the strawberries, ½ to 1 cup sugar depending on your taste and about ¼ cup water to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes. Thicken to your preferred thickness, if necessary, with cornstarch. Cool completely before using as topping.

Additional perks include a 150-point quality assurance inspection, a 10-year unlimited mileage roadside assistance plan, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, towing, rental and breakdown benefits and a Carfax Vehicle History report. Additionally, a vehicle may be eligible for additional comprehensive mechanical failure coverage up to 100,000 miles.

Program benefits include rental car coverage for up to 10 days and up to $35 per day; towing coverage for covered mechanical breakdowns and breakdown coverage for breakdowns that happen more than 100 miles from home. For the breakdowns, the program provides reimbursement for food and lodging as long as the breakdown is caused by a covered mechanical issue, and we will cover up to $75. For the towing, we cover towing to the nearest Hyundai dealership and will pay up to $75 per occurrence.

The program also has different levels of coverage including standard, which is the 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. We also have available service contract coverage upgrades. And, other coverage levels include Gold, which covers most mechanical parts; Gold Plus, which covers even more and Platinum, which is the "ultimate" coverage protection.

Also available is a Hyundai Vehicle Care Pre-Paid Maintenance Plan, the Hyundai Road Hazard and Wheel Protection Plan and the Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty.

2015 Genesis and Santa Fe Earn 2015 Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy Awards

Two Hyundai models, both available at Superior Hyundai North, snagged the Consumer Guide Automotive's "Best Buy" awards at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. The Genesis took the honor in the large car category and the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport stole the award in the crossover/SUV category. Both vehicles were presented with the awards at the auto show.

2015 Hyundai Genesis

Editors from Consumer Guide gave the award to the Genesis as it gives the consumer premium brand luxury car accommodations and interior room for prices that are significantly lower than other luxury vehicles in its class.

The 2015 Genesis has been completely redesigned inside and it features tons of premium features and better vehicle dynamics. The platform has also been revised, making the Genesis more rigid than last year's model. Consumers can opt for several advanced assistance features including lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, smart cruise control and blind spot detection.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport

The editors loved that the seven-passenger Santa Fe and five-passenger Santa Fe Sport were quiet, comfortable, well-appointed and had tons of versatility expected in an SUV.

The 2015 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport have an upgraded interior and a redesigned exterior. These models offer consumers a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The power plant is still the 3.3-liter Lambda II V-6 engine and a dual continuously variable transmission. The Santa Fe also features include a Hands-Free Smart Lift gate with Auto Openmakes.

Best Buy Award

The Best Buy Award is given to vehicles that rank at the top of their class; but those vehicles must also be approved by the Consumer Guide editors. Chosen vehicles will have a balance of price for their classes and attributes. In the past 11 years, Hyundai models have earned more than 35 Best Buy or "Recommended" ratings, according to Scott Margason, the director of Product Planning at Hyundai Motor America. Margason also stated that, "These awards are a testament to our continued commitment to delivering quality cars with leading design and performance at an unprecedented value."

Top Road Trip Essentials

When you plan a road trip, you can't just make reservations, jump in the car and go. You have several things to do before a road trip, especially a long road trip. First, if your vehicle has upcoming service, do that prior to the road trip, especially if the mileage will be over the mileage for the recommended service. Call Superior Hyundai North to set up a service appointment. Let us know that you are going o a long road trip and we will check everything for you.

Food and Drink

While you should have high-energy food packed in an emergency kit, you should also pack snacks and drinks so you have something on the way. If you can find room for a small cooler in cabin, you won't have to make as many stops for drinks. You might pack chips, sandwiches, candy bars and other easy-to-eat snacks.

Beef up the Emergency Kit

No matter the season, you should have extra blankets in your emergency kit. However, if you are traveling in the winter, you should have extra blankets, extra jackets and an extra set of warm clothing for everyone in the vehicle. Should you get stuck in a snow storm or slide off the road, you'll have a way to keep warm until help arrives. In the case of a snow storm, it may be hours or even a day or two until help arrives and you can't rely on running your vehicle to stay warm.

You should also have safety triangles and flares packed in the emergency kit. The safety triangles will warn other drivers to stay away from the side of the road. Flares will come in handy if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. Help may have a hard time finding you or you may not be able to call anyone to alert them of your location.

Music

Bring our MP3 player or extra CDs with you. If you have a DVD system and children, bring several DVDs to keep them occupied. These come in handy when you are driving in an area that doesn't have great radio reception or you can't find a good radio station. Playing music helps keep you alert and decreases the boredom of driving when you run out of things to talk about.

Stop by Superior Hyundai North

Be sure to stop by Superior Hyundai North for service or to trade in your current vehicle for a new vehicle before your road trip. If you already planned on upgrading, doing it before a road trip lets you ride in style.

Perks of Buying a Hybrid

When you stop in to Superior Hyundai North, you'll probably test drive more than one vehicle as you'll have at least two or three that you want to compare. Be sure that you have a hybrid model on your list as you'll be quite surprised at the power and at how economic a hybrid model is. Buying a hybrid affords you several perks including economic reasons.

Car Insurance

When you buy a hybrid model, your vehicle insurance is usually lower as many insurance companies offer discounts for being green. You can get up to 10 percent off your vehicle insurance, and in some cases, even before additional discounts are applied. Depending on your age, the number of drivers using your insurance and whether you have teenagers listed on your policy, you could save hundreds per year.

Less Money Spent on Fuel

You'll definitely spend less money on fuel if you drive a hybrid. Since the batteries take over for a good portion of driving, you won't be using gas. The fuel economy averages about 50 mpg* for most hybrids. This saves you hundreds of dollars over the year.

Free HOV Passes

Another thing that helps you save money is that you get HOV access even if you have only one person in the vehicle. Since traffic is usually not as bad, you use less gas while riding on the HOV lanes; and you'll get to your destination sooner. As it is said, time is money, so not only are you saving on the cost of gas, but you are saving time in most cases.

Taxes

You may also be eligible for a tax credit on your income tax if you drive a hybrid vehicle. These credits are based on your state and whether your state allows the additional credits. This could net you a larger refund or if you have to pay in, could reduce the amount you have to pay by a significant amount.

When you add all of the savings together, you could realize over $1,000 in savings over the year, depending on your driving habits and the cost of your insurance.
